A tranquil sanctuary of coastal forest and bush, Thunzi Bush lodge can be found in the malaria-free Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

Let your soul revitalize in the quiet privacy of one of our elevated luxury log cabins, each with its own balcony and spectacular view of the surrounding indigenous forest and wetlands. All cabins are luxuriously furnished with fully equipped en-suite bathrooms, tea/coffee amenities, mini bar, heated towel rails and a daily laundry facility. All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are offered at Thunzi, or if preferred, there are a variety of off-site restaurants close by to suit your individual needs.

The lodge supports an abundant wildlife with over three hundred and fifty-two bird species having been listed in the area, including many elusive species such as the Narina Trogon, African Rail, Grey Sunbird and the often heard Buff-Spotted and Red-Chested Flufftails. While most of the Estate is classified as Coastal Indigenous Forest, the close proximity of Grassland, Acacia Thicket and the De Stades River Wetland, creates an ideal eco-diversity for bird watching.  You are always assured of seeing the Knysna Loerie (Turaco ) our signature bird, with its magnificent crimson and green plumage. On a good morning guests have seen all 5 of our listed kingfishers within the estate, which in its own has been a highlight for some. Thunzi Bush Lodge offers customized birding tours with a qualified bird guide, enabling you to fully experience the rich abundance of birdlife in the region.

Walking trails provide access to the dense indigenous coastal forest where many animals including bushbuck, blue duiker and vervet monkeys can be spotted. The lodge is situated on the doorstep of the Maitland Nature Reserve, a 127 hectare property comprising of three nature trails, with the famous giant Maitland sand dunes and pristine shores of Maitland Beach a mere 2km away.

 Thunzi offers a variety of activities on site namely, bird watching, horse riding, bass fishing and forest & beach walks. While it is easy to immerse yourself entirely in the natural beauty of Thunzi Bush Lodge, it is amazing to know that within a 30 minute drive, you have access to a variety of game and wildlife attractions, modern shopping malls, oceanaruim with performing dolphins and many other first world attractions.
